The First META Youth Alumni Weekend
While two SOMA teams were serving in Tanzania, another exciting milestone was taking place closer to home—the very first META Youth Alumni Weekend.
Around 25 young adults, aged 18–22, who had completed META Youth Cohorts 1, 2 and 3 gathered for a weekend of teaching, worship, fellowship and encouragement. It was a special opportunity to reconnect, deepen friendships and continue investing in a generation of young leaders who are seeking to follow Jesus wholeheartedly.
The weekend was made possible through the leadership of Stu and Suzie Wright, Rt Revd Sandy and Annette Millar, and Matt Morgan, our SOMA Intern, who did a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes organising the event.
Teaching throughout the weekend encouraged the young people to think deeply about discipleship in everyday life. Sessions explored themes of simplicity and generosity, challenging everyone to consider how following Jesus shapes every area of life. There were also opportunities for worship, prayer and sharing stories of what God has been doing since completing the programme.
A particularly memorable moment came as Rt Revd Sandy Millar celebrated the 50th anniversary of his ordination by sharing stories of the many moves of the Holy Spirit he has witnessed throughout his ministry. He encouraged the alumni to remember that God is not finished yet—that the same Holy Spirit is still at work today, and that He has a perfect purpose for the next generation.
One of the greatest joys of the weekend was seeing the lasting fruit of META Youth. What began as a discipleship programme has grown into a community of young adults who continue to encourage one another, seek God together and step out in faith. It was a reminder that discipleship doesn't end when the programme finishes—it is the beginning of a lifelong journey.
If you know a young person aged 16–21 who is eager to grow in their faith, explore God's calling and be equipped alongside others their age, we'd love to encourage them to apply for META Youth 2026. Applications are now open, and we look forward to welcoming the next cohort on this transformational journey.
