SOMA UK (Sharing of Ministries Abroad) is a Spirit-led Anglican mission agency that sends short-term mission teams to support churches, leaders, and communities across the Anglican Communion. Our focus is on renewal through the Holy Spirit, equipping leaders, building relationships, and deepening discipleship. As we seek to expand our impact in the UK and globally, we are looking for a Volunteer Fundraiser to help grow our income and widen our base of support.
Role Purpose
The Volunteer Fundraiser will play a vital role in supporting the sustainability and growth of SOMA UK by helping to raise funds through individual giving, events, trust applications, church partnerships, and digital campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
We recognise that no-one person is likely to be able to do all of the below, but welcome applications from anyone able to offer assistance in two or more areas.
Support fundraising strategy: Work with the National Director and team to shape and implement elements of SOMA UK’s fundraising approach.
Build supporter relationships: Help nurture relationships with existing donors and identify new potential supporters.
Coordinate fundraising campaigns: Support online appeals, seasonal giving drives, and legacy giving initiatives.
Research funding opportunities: Identify suitable trusts and foundations, and draft compelling applications in collaboration with the SOMA team.
Support church engagement: Assist in developing fundraising materials for churches and mission supporters, including presentations, packs, and updates.
Plan or support events: Help organise fundraising events or support others to do so locally or online.
Maintain records: Support with keeping track of donations, donor contacts, and outcomes using SOMA UK systems.
Person Specification
Essential
Passion for global mission and SOMA UK’s vision and values
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Organised, reliable, and self-motivated
Comfortable reaching out to individuals, churches, or funders
Able to work well independently and collaboratively
Willing to pray for and with others in support of SOMA’s mission
Desirable
Experience in fundraising, grant writing, or donor relations
Understanding of the Anglican Church context
Experience using fundraising or CRM software

Trustee with Responsibility for Safeguarding

We send teams across the Anglican Communion to support leaders, encourage discipleship, and build cross-cultural partnerships. Our work often takes us into diverse and challenging contexts, requiring high standards of care, responsibility, and spiritual integrity.
As part of strengthening our governance and mission, we are seeking a trustee with specific responsibility for safeguarding.
Role Summary
The Safeguarding Trustee ensures that SOMA UK maintains the highest standards of safeguarding across all areas of its ministry, particularly in the context of overseas mission. They provide strategic oversight, challenge, and support to the board and staff team in implementing effective safeguarding practices in line with UK legislation, Anglican policies, and good practice in international mission settings.
Key Responsibilities
As a full member of the Board of Trustees:
Ensure SOMA UK fulfils its legal and moral obligations as a Christian charity and mission agency
Contribute to the development of SOMA’s strategic direction and ensure effective oversight of activities
Act as a critical friend to the National Director and staff team
As the Trustee with Responsibility for Safeguarding:
Provide strategic oversight of safeguarding policies and procedures for adults and children
Ensure SOMA UK complies with relevant safeguarding regulations (e.g. Charity Commission, Church of England guidance, international best practice)
Support the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and receive regular safeguarding updates and reports
Ensure that appropriate safeguarding training is in place for staff, volunteers, and mission teams
Champion a culture of safeguarding and accountability across the organisation
Lead the board’s response to any serious safeguarding concerns or incidents
Advise on safeguarding risk in new initiatives or international partnerships
Person Specification
Essential
A practising Christian committed to SOMA UK’s mission, values, and ministry style
Proven understanding of safeguarding principles, ideally including experience in a church, education, health, social care, or mission context
Familiarity with current safeguarding legislation and guidance (including adult and child safeguarding)
Sound judgement and the ability to offer both support and challenge in a trustee role
Ability to understand and evaluate safeguarding policies and their implementation in different cultural contexts
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Willingness to commit time and energy to the role (including reading reports, attending meetings, and staying updated on safeguarding developments)
Desirable
Experience in international development, cross-cultural ministry, or sending/receiving mission teams
Knowledge of Anglican safeguarding frameworks (e.g. House of Bishops’ guidance)
Relevant professional background (e.g. social work, teaching, clergy, safeguarding coordination)
Time Commitment
Four board meetings per year (a mix of online and in-person)
Occasional involvement between meetings (e.g. reviewing safeguarding reports, attending training, supporting risk assessments)
Estimated time: approx. 6–10 days annually
