About us

SOMA UK enables churches and individuals to encounter God globally.

Our worldwide ministry envisions, encourages and equips leaders in evangelism and the ministry of the Holy Spirit, releasing people into adventures and experiences of God beyond their wildest expectations.

Who we are

SOMA UK is an Anglican mission agency committed to renewal in the power of the Holy Spirit. ‘SOMA’ means body in Greek and part of our role is to connect the global church together.

We are a key member of SOMA International, a family of SOMAs across different countries who work together for the transformation of individuals and churches and the healing of communities and their lands through the renewing power of the Holy Spirit.

We send and receive SOMA teams responding to episcopal invitations worldwide. Often going to less-visited contexts, we equip clergy and lay leaders, raise the next generation, and cultivate a growing movement of prayer and formation.

Our vision

We are a Spirit-led movement enabling cross-cultural mission, reconciliation, and leadership formation across the global Anglican family; nurturing communities of prayer that contend for God’s kingdom worldwide.

In order to achieve this we are focused on five key areas:

  • SOMA Missions - We bring international teams together to run conferences for clergy and lay leaders delivering teaching in the power of the Holy Spirit. Team members go as learners being transformed as they serve.

  • Community of Prayer - We are establishing a global prophetic intercessory movement grounded in Anglican spirituality.

  • Meta Youth - We are growing a thriving Youth initiative with international reach, investing in future leaders of the next generation.

  • Partnerships - We are aiming to have sustainable and strategic partnerships linking together churches from across the globe.

  • Storytelling - We aim to be an influential, Spirit-filled voice in the UK and Anglican Communion, amplifying voices from the Global South.

Our story

SOMA UK was birthed out of a move of God’s Spirit at the 1978 Lambeth Conference when Bishops from around the world came to the UK.

Before the conference began, 300 charismatic bishops and senior clergy took the opportunity to gather. There was an outbreak of God’s Spirit that energised all those in the room. SOMA was born out of this experience of an outpouring of God’s grace.

Since then SOMA has had a calling to ‘Join the Holy Spirit Tending to the Nervous System of the Body of Christ.’ In practice this has often meant going to places that are hurting (e.g. Rwanda in 1996), connecting the church internationally and building the body both overseas and in the sending country as well. Today SOMA continues to connect the church across the world, breaking barriers that can separate us and building up the body of Christ through learning together.

Every SOMA team I’ve brought back has had a massive impact on the DNA of mission in my church.

Our values

  • Committed to discerning and doing all that God asks of us.

  • We trust in God’s word and are orthodox in our theology.

  • We live from our knees, demonstrating a reliance on God in all that we do.

  • We work with key leaders to see restoration, renewal and revival in the Anglican Church and beyond.

  • We seek to serve others, and intentionally endeavour to learn with and from the global church.

We are a mission partner of the Global South Fellowship of Anglicans (GSFA), a member of the Evangelical Alliance (EA) and we align to SOMA internationals core beliefs.
