Celebrating the life and ministry of John Wyndham

The SOMA International family are mourning and celebrating the life of former SOMA Australia National Director this month as we hear of ‘his promotion to glory.’

Among the tributes is this one from Bishop Rennis (former SOMA Singapore Director) writes:

A Tribute to the late Revd John Wyndham

I remember John with great affection and admiration. What a tremendous servant of the Lord & friend he was! He was exemplary in his indefatigable energy in connecting & renewing the body of Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit. It's amazing how he provided the social glue from 'the land down under' to keep the international SOMA body focussed on its mission & closely knit together. In his forthright and winsome way, he helped the SOMA leadership to keep foremost the foundational calling of the Lord in 1979 (following Lambeth 1978) for SOMA to be a 'renewal in the Holy Spirit' arm within the Anglican Communion. And John never lost the vital connection between renewal and mission. Hence, he worked tirelessly across borders to raise SOMA teams to renew the local diocese or church to advance the kingdom of Christ. Even after his retirement, John remained an elder statesman of SOMA in how he modelled its values and how he continued to build the bonds of fellowship in the SOMA family.

As we press on developing the ministry of SOMA around the world we are humbled and privileged to remember that we stand on the shoulders of the spiritual giants who have gone before us. John’s account of the development of SOMA ‘From Everywhere to Everywhere’ can be found here.
