New Teams | New Opportunties

Last night there were two key meetings in the life of SOMA UK as 9 people gathered for team preparation for Cohort 4 of our META Youth programme and 12 others gathered for a trustee meeting. The screenshot from the second meeting didn’t pass our photo policy (much less photogenic!) but meet the new META Team below:

META Team consisting of new, returning and young leaders, led by Stu Wright and administered by Lydia Jourdain.

The trustees meeting included two guests exploring becoming trustees, and a report from Wayne Massey our link trustee to the SOMA UK National Leadership Team indicating that there are two more potential members of the NLT to be interviewed.

The vibrant meeting was well chaired by Kevin and the sense of momentum in SOMA UK was palpable. Key items included strategy, fundraising, mission reporting and various organisational improvements to help us meet a ‘Gold Standard’ as a charity (more to follow). Five of the trustees gathered were preparing to go on missions in the next few weeks (to Sierra Leone, Rwanda, and Burundi).

A huge thanks was expressed to Sarah Taylor, who has helped revolutionise a number of SOMA UK practices including our comprehensive insurance review. Small charities like ours need to comply with legislation and get the same processes in place as charities with massive overheads. Volunteers like Sarah can make a huge difference in a short time in this context, and while Sarah’s time is now needed elsewhere she has loved what she has been able to achieve and contribute to while volunteering from home. If you have operational, adminsitrative or governance skills looking for an outlet please check out SOMA UK Opportunities as we would love to hear from you.

Could you be our next Sarah?

SOMA UK is committed to building teams representing all of God’s children, and with our national and international focus particularly value having team members from UKME or Global Majority Heritage backgrounds who are based in the UK helping shape our direction.
