It was incredible perfect

Our team in South Sudan were thanked with a generous gift of a sheep as they finished the teaching in Warrup (the second of two back to back mission weeks).

Paul Harcourt, team leader writes: “Had a lovely moment today when a child hobbled to the front on a crutch because of a damaged knee. We got a couple of young leaders to pray as we’d trained them yesterday (had to help a bit) - the child came in walking freely after the morning break to show us that she’s been healed!”

We are grateful for good health in general, safe travel, and fruitful ministry amongst a very poor church that have never experienced this sort of investment. We have taught quite a bit of the Old Testament story because at present only the New Testament has been translated into the Dinka language. A few people speak some English but very few compared to Wau or Juba.

We are so thankful for the intercessors. As several have said, God’s Grace is sufficient for the task and his power has indeed been made perfect in our weakness. It’s hard to plan teaching - you may have an hour, you may have only fifteen minutes.

At the end of the first session on Wednesday, we were asked to pray for several sick people. In the event about twenty came forward. As a result, we brought forward the teaching on healing to the following session, so that we might try and train them to pray for each other. They joined in enthusiastically. We pray that the Lord’s power will be released - many Christians are under pressure from unconverted relatives to take their sick children to the witch doctors.

We have also placed a particular emphasis on forgiveness, turning away from revenge, and serving others in love. In South Sudan everyone has a heartbreaking story of losing loved ones, of being displaced, of inter-community violence. The Church is deeply involved in peace-making and reconciliation, at both national and local levels.

The team was made up of South Sudanese leaders (living in Uganda) as well as three SOMA UK team members. William reports:

Ronald, Paul and William

“It was incredible perfect and learned a lot from Rev Canon Paul our team leader who is excellent as well as Becky and Kay. I'm indeed much encouraged by the mission and one of the teaching I teach was servant heart of God. We are all servant to one another as Jesus who is God demonstrated to us in John 13 and they were very happy after the session they come to me and saying thank you so much for teaching there are lots of testimonies people gave. We prayed for the sick people.”
