The Power of Prayer

I (Grace) recently asked some of our SOMA Intercessors and mission trip leaders what difference the support from our Intercessors Network makes for them - whether it’s more personal as they dedicate their time to prayer, or miracles they’ve seen on missions.

Rev Matthew Grayshon has led many trips with SOMA, and he has shared with us the difference prayer makes for him.

The power of Prayer is wonderful! Open, expectant prayer offered to the Father, in the power of the Spirit in Jesus name, brings extraordinary change. One of the joys of my work with SOMA in east Africa is seeing release from traditional religion into the joy and peace of the presence of Jesus. In one diocese there was an outpouring of the gift of evangelism amongst young men. There are wonderful healings eg from inability to conceive, of  broken limbs, of endless bleeding. There are wonderful moments of confession and forgiveness, of relationships restored. Alleluia!

The extraordinary work of SOMA intercessors is almost tangible, especially when you are leading a team ‘on the edge’ eg in Sudan or the DR Congo or the desert of northern Kenya.  . It is joy to send and receive WhatsApp news and words day by day.  SOMA teams know they are safe under the shadow of the Father’s wings because there is so much prayer at home and around the world. On one occasion a team ambushed by armed tribesmen were sent smiling on their way because their leader respected Christians.
