New Teams at SOMA

There was a sense of momentum and encouragement as the new National Leadership Team at SOMA UK gathered for our first online meeting this week. Meanwhile we have also begun recruiting Authorised Team Leaders and SOMA Pastors… read more below:

Members of the NLT, and link trustee Wayne Massey. Top from Left: Revd Wayne Massey, Revd Claire Clarke*, Revd Diane Reid, Becky Harcourt. Bottom: Canon John Bavington, Revd Mike Tufnell, Revd Will Pearson Gee. All members have been through an application and interview process with our link trustee. [*authorised team leader exploring NLT involvement]

Trustee Wayne Massey writes:

I'm Wayne, the NLT SOMA Link Trustee. That means I get the best job of all the trustees. I am a vicar in Bristol (babristol.org) and a big fan of SOMA.. I believe the Lord is positioning SOMA to play a key role in bringing revival fire back to the UK form the church overseas. We go knowing we have so much to learn and receive ourselves. The NLT team will be key in helping to grow teams going on mission and connecting us with our brothers and sisters across the world. So on behalf of all of the trustees a massive thank you for joining this team.

What the team have to say:

John Bavington: Vicar and Area Dean of Inner Bradford. Our church has a relatively high number of 'internationals' and I'm passionate about church planting and building an intercultural church. I grew up in Pakistan and have taken part in short term missions in Tanzania (with Tearfund) and South Sudan (with SOMA).

Claire Clarke: I used to organise many SOMA missions with Rev David McDougall a while ago and I’ve been on SOMA and other missions mainly to Africa - Tanzania , Uganda, South Africa. I’m just tentatively discerning at this point but I’m planning to lead a SOMA mission team to South India next summer. I’m vicar of two churches just next to Heathrow Airport in West London

Becky Harcourt: I haven’t been involved in SOMA previously but am very much looking forward to participating in an upcoming SOMA trip to S Sudan in October! I’m based in NE London where my husband Paul and I have been involved in church leadership since 1995. I’ve just recently come off the New Wine Leadership Team as that season has ended and am exciting about the next season with SOMA!

Will Pearson Gee Vicar in Buckingham Parish Church where I’ve been for 14 years. I’m new to SOMA but got fired up with Richard whilst in Kigali, Rwanda. Im hugely excited to see what God is up to by pulling these saints together on this NLT! My PCC is excited and we can’t wait to partner in mission.

Diane Reid: My husband Jason and I lead a small but faithful church in Selby, North Yorkshire. I'm also new to SOMA (with much to learn!), but had such a wonderful time in Northern Ireland with SOMA earlier this year that I'm going back in October. My passion is prophecy, seeking God's heart for others, looking for His Kingdom in all places, and especially encouraging/equipping others to grow in that gift.

Mike Tufnell: I’m Vicar of the Lantern Church near Wimborne and Team Rector of Canford Parish. I grew up in Tanzania and am a trustee to Redtribe, a Christian charity working with the Maasai in S.Kenya. I’m passionate about the local church…and so also the Global, local church! We have so much more to learn from them in this season than them from us. I’m passionate about Word and Spirit ministry coming together as God intended. I sense networks like SOMA are going to be even more significant and important in a divided church in desperate need of a move of God.

Alongside this team we have also begun appointing ‘Authorised Team Leaders’ who are both able to lead teams and provide an ongoing support in between missions, and wise counsel, as we build up SOMA’s capacity in the UK and beyond.

A final new group is our ‘SOMA Pastors’. SOMA Pastors are experienced team members/former team leaders who will go on a team to support new team members and leaders and are a key part of our intergenerational mission teams.

These will join our SOMA Intercessors and SOMA Mission Team Members as key members of the SOMA family.

Please be in touch with the National Director, Richard Moy, if you would like to know more about becoming an Authorised Team Leader, SOMA Pastor, SOMA Intercessor or SOMA Team member.. richard.moy@somauk.org
